Before I take engagement photos for couples this is probably the most common question I get.
"What do we wear? Any tips?"
This is a great question, and ultimately it’s up to you! If you want to go more casual, that’s great. If you would like to get dressed up that’s great too! These photos should reflect you two as a couple. Whatever fits your relationship is what is best!
With that being said, I do have some general tips on how to pick out outfits.
1. Pick a colour scheme
Be purposeful with the colours you two
choose to wear. Try to find ways to tie in your outfits together. On the right, you can see one of my brides to be wore a lovely floral dress and her fiancé wore a yellow dress shirt that matched the yellow of some of the flowers. This was a great way to tie their outfits together in a nice subtle way.
2. Wear Neutral Colours
I find that more neutral colours and pastels are great in the summer. You get such vibrant colours around you with all the greenery that wearing very bold colours like bright red can sometimes be a bit overpowering. In the fall, neutral tones like browns and burgundy are some of my favourites. You may have been told black is slimming and white is classic, but colour is great! I also find that layers are a nice way to mix up your colours as well.
3. Minimize patterns
If you're wearing a pattern, try to keep it to just one of you. Wearing the same pattern can be overpowering and wearing different patterns can clash.
4. Be comfortable!
We will mostly likely be up and moving around so wear something that allows for that. Above all else, you should each wear something that you love. Something that you feel comfortable and confident in. If you feel good, you’re going to be so much more comfortable during the photo shoot and it will make it so much easier for your fun authentic selves to shine through! If you feel good, you’ll look good!
